I have read enough pamphlets that say when diabetics are sick their glucose levels change and it is usually higher. But, until now that has NEVER happened to me.
My personal norm:
First thing in the morning: 90-120
2 hours after eating: 130-150
After workout: 80-100
Now that I am sick:
First thing in the morning: 145-160
2 hours after eating: 150-166
After workout:130
I’m in a panic. Those are major increases and I haven’t seen those kinds of numbers since I was first diagnosed.
How long will this last? Should I eat the same way I ate before I got sick? Should I reduce my carb intake even lower? What vitamins should I take? Are there other things that I should be worried about? What do you do/recommend?
Help! (I really wish I had an Endo right about now).
btw, have a cold with a sore throat and runny nose. nothing more.
Hi Dr. P!
I'm sorry that you're feeling sick, that's never any fun. I hope you get through it quickly.
You know that I live with type 1 diabetes, so I'm using insulin. When I'm fighting a sickness I usually have to increase my insulin to try and offset the highs.
I'm not sure what most people with type 2 diabetes do, but wanted to at least drop a note with some well-wishes.
Thanks Scott. I have to figure out something. It's getting up too high.
