This has been a big week for me.
Firstly, Wednesday marked one year since I’ve been diagnosed. February 15th, my Dia-versary, has come around. I survived one year and I’m praying that I have many more years ahead of me. While reflecting over this past year, I realized that creating this blog was a beautiful thing. Not only did it give the platform to express my feelings, but it made me available to get support. The genuine concern others have shown me is more than I would have expected in a dream. Plus, through blogging, I am able to go back and read snippets of my earlier thoughts and chart my growth. I was totally moved by seeing all the changes I’ve made this year. Especially, when I look back and see that I’ve dealt with and overcome having been diagnosed and losing my home in a tornado.
I’m not 100% recovered from the impact of that, but I’m better than I was a year ago.
Secondly, I launched my website this week. I’m very proud of it. BlackDiabeticInfo.com
Finally, on Saturday, I was a special guest speaker at the Black Expo in Raleigh, NC. This marked the first speaking engagement I had as the Founder of Black Diabetic Info. Yeah! :-D
Here are a couple of pictures from the event.
Congratulations on your website, Dr. P! Making use of the internet to spread word of your advocacy about diabetes is a truly a sound choice. Your site can reach a lot of people which makes social awareness tap more audiences. I applaud you for your effort in educating people about the disease while creating a support group for those who have it.
