It’s Mango season!

As a kid growing up in South Florida, I couldn’t wait until the summer to have as many mangoes as my stomach could handle. Of course, I would start off eating from the two trees in our backyard, but as the days went on and I got tired of eating ours, I traded with the next door neighbor. We both preferred the other’s. They had “peach mangoes” and we had “baby hagon mangoes.” Because of how I grew up, summer is the time for eating fruit and Shelby Kinnaird’s book release on June 26, 2018 is perfect timing.  I can use a reminder, a boost, a recharge in my carb-counting awareness as I prepare for Mango season.

I was given the opportunity to review the book before it’s release and here are 3 reasons why I recommend that you get your hands on a copy.

1. This isn’t your average “carb-counting” book where you look up the carb count of certain foods, like a mango for instance. In this book Shelby gives you strategies to navigate the world of constant carb-counting that we have to do as people living with diabetes.

2. This book was written by a person living with diabetes for more than 18 years and it feels that way. How many times have you read a book about doing this or doing that, but it just doesn’t connect with you? You can tell the author has NO CLUE what it’s like to never have a day off. That won’t be the case here. From the very beginning, you’ll know that the author is right there with you.

3. What I love most about the book is that there are bits of humor spread throughout. For example, the opening chapters are heavy with science and math and just as I was thinking to myself…”I am not a math person.” I read the following line… “Do you hate math? If so, you’ll love the carb-counting alternatives in Chapter 5.” Then she adds, “Measuring, counting, and tracking can be a huge help in managing your blood sugar, and its not as hard as you think. Show your middle school math teacher that she was wrong about you!” When I read that, I laughed aloud. Shelby was speaking directly to me and I loved it. Nothing like knowing your audience.

I’m giving away 1 copy of the book to a lucky winner. All you have to do is comment on this post explaining why you’d like to have the free copy and on June 15, 2018 at 12pm EST, I will draw names. You must reside in the USA to win.

You can also pre-order your copy today on amazon (and it comes in print and on kindle).

*While I received an advance copy of the book, I did not nor will I receive any compensation for this review (not even a fresh cool mango). All opinions expressed are my own. Trust me, if I didn’t benefit from reading it, I wouldn’t tell you to check it out.
